Dr. Scott Phillips grew up in Logansport, Indiana, graduating from Logansport High School.  He then attended Butler University in Indianapolis, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology. While studying there he was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon international fraternity.  Following this, he studied at Indiana University School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. degree in 1990.  He also began his career in the United States Air Force while at IU, a decision that would positively affect his career for years to come.

Following medical school Dr. Phillips completed his internship in General Surgery prior to becoming a Flight Surgeon for the Air Force’s  highly-decorated 55th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field/Eglin AFB, Florida.  It was during this tour of duty that he deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait for Operation Desert Storm, the first “Gulf War.”  He also participated in several humanitarian assistance missions, including Operation Provide Comfort in Turkey, and subsequently provided humanitarian care to Cuban refugees at Guantanamo Bay.  After finishing his tour as a special operations flight surgeon, he returned to Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center to complete his otolaryngology residency.  His following assignment was to Scott Air Force Base, near St. Louis, where he eventually was promoted to Chief of Otolaryngology.  While there he was also selected to serve as a NASA Space Shuttle Rescue Team flight surgeon, a responsibility he proudly continues to perform today. In fact, he has been on the rescue team of eleven Space Shuttle missions to date.  He continues his Air Force career as a reservist at Grissom Air Reserve Base, serving as the flight surgeon for the 72nd Air Refueling Squadron.

Dr. Phillips has since completed his Fellowship in Otolaryngic Allergy, and after joining the Center for Ear Nose Throat and Allergy, formerly Head and Neck Surgery Associates, has focused his practice in the areas of Pediatric Ear Nose and Throat disorders and Nasal Health.  Along with his partners, he is one of the few Indiana doctors who offer the minimally-invasive balloon dilatation of the sinuses for the relief of sinusitis.

He has presented at numerous national and international meetings, published a textbook chapter and several papers in the medical literature, and currently he is active in medical research, conducting a study of the relationship of nasal polyps and acid reflux disease.  Recognized as a clinical instructor, he teaches many educational courses to other physicians, including Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Combat Casualty Care, and is also the instructor in allergy for the ENT residents at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He also enjoys public speaking to community elementary schools and service organizations, such as the Kiwanis.  Dr. Phillips welcomes children and adults, including children with special needs, and is available for consultation at the Carmel and Avon offices.
